Actually, this machine didn't have a calibration issue. It was just straight up defective and had to be pulled. Every button worked normal except for Obama, if it was a calibration issue then every button would be the equal distance off. It's explained in the comments section directly under the video.
From what I remember it was indeed a calibration issue and was put back after being recalibrated.
There are two main types of touchscreens, resistive and capacitive. What you said is true of capacitive touchscreens- if it's off, everything is off. This is the type of touchscreen you will find on tablets, phones, etc.
The voting machine, however, was a resistive touchscreen. This is a more durable type of touchscreen, but is also more prone to errors. In a resistive screen, each section needs to be calibrated individually. The fact that it was only off on that particular section means that more than likely it just wasn't calibrated correctly.
Of course from what I heard the precinct staff didn't respond very well, but that's a different matter entirely. I think this situation is best left to Hanlon and Occam's razors. If you really wanted to cheat, wouldn't you just have the machine display Obama's vote and give the actual vote to Romney?
