They really should have had him fight in the UFC before his record gets fucked.

Yeah, he's been fighting since 2000, breaks his hands every other fight, only fights like once a year now, etc etc. I'd say hang em up.

It was bound to happen. From what I heard he wanted to retire after the loss to Werdum but since he was still undercontract the CEO of Strikeforce talked him out of it.

He was only fighting once a year and everytime he would fight he'd break his hand.

It does suck considering all the new MMA fans and fanboys are talking about how his reign of terror was luck and eventually your luck runs out ect. I highly doubt there will ever be a person to be so dominating and consistent as Fedor has been.

He will be missed

Although Rickson is a very good Jiu Jitsu practioner, he is def not the best fighter in the world. considering he got out of the game way before people started cross training, but to all the Gracie Jiu Jitsu loyalists he will always be "the best".

Bas Rutten is a beast, one of my favorite fighters, but he wouldn't beat Fedor.

I've been watching UFC and Pride since I was 14, I've watched a lot of great fighters and listened to a lot of nut hugging about how awesome this one fighter is ect. I just don't buy into the hype of Rickson Gracie, he hasn't been tested in 10 years and even then he fought a bunch of no namers. I am not discrediting his Jiu Jitsu, but as a pound for pound fighter? not the best in the world.

Bas Rutten was a great fighter and to me was one of the best MMA fighters in the world, but due to his knees we will never know how far he could have gone...now even saying that he wouldn't beat Fedor Emelianenko, Watch some matches from Pride of Fedor he beat the best time and time again.

The only loss in 10 years pre Silva and Werdum was an illegal elbow from Tsuyoshi "TK" Kohsaka which opened up a huge gash in his forehead and the doctor deemed Fedor unable to continue. Which should have been counted as a NC, but I digress I've never seen anyone like Fedor.

i am good friends with the gracie family. you must not have heard of rickson fighting to the death in the early 90's the only reason he stopped fighting was because his son got kidnapped and killed. now royce he is out of the game and not the best but rickson i would never doubt him.

Considering I lost the essay I wrote up via freezing web browser about Rickson and why he isn't the best fighter I will summarize via bullet points

-Sad that rickson tragically lost his son, but the facts are oficially they reported his death due to a motorcycle accident, 2 theories that surround his death are that he either ODed on drugs or he left LA with drugs that weren't his and the dealers caught up with him in NY

-Nowhere do I find anything about him fighting to the death, his "400-0" can be debated because he doesn't have proof and also Ron Tripp beat him in a Sambo tournament in '93 so I don't know how credible that record is.

-He is purely a BJJ fighter hasn't fought professionally in 10 years.

-Fedor is the complete package when you're talking fighter, striking, grappling, throws, and submissions. Has consistently fought the best and beaten them for the past 10 years.

Like I said before I had an elaborate posting of why I don't buy in the Rickson hype, but alas its gone and I don't feel like writing it again smirk If you care to continue to debate on this subject by all means smile

i have nothing to debate sir you are correct fedor is the complete package but what you dont know about rickson is probably somthing they wouldnt post online. i have met him and most of the family. they are very notorious in brazil. the son i was talking about was 9 when he died so couldnt have been related to drugs/motorcycle accident.

Brazilian Newspaper: http://epoca.globo.com/edic/20010423/peri.htm

<Translated>

"In New York, the cause of death of the jiu-jítsu fighter Rockson Gracie was announced. The findings of the autopsy disclosed that the 19 year-old Brazilian died of an overdose of drugs and medicines."

Rickson has 3 other children alive and well so I'm not sure if there was a secret 5 child that died at the age of 9, but he definitely stopped fighting after Rockson died, thats why he never fought Sakuraba.

I know how notorious they are in Brazil, I know the Gracie story, I've read articles and books and have trained with people who train under the Gracies(Renzo)

What I'm saying is your facts are flawed.

They don't post things about him because he doesn't want people knowing everything, because then the Myth that is Rickson Gracie can live on.

I'm not discrediting him he is a great Jiu Jitsu practioner, one of the best, but going back to what the postings were about in the beginning...he isn't the best fighter in the world.
