Greetings-
Long time old LOD friends How the hell has obi, carange, trance, pyro and the rest of the bunch been? Hope all is good.
Just wanted to let you know that ive been in Vanguard since beta 1 and its a few days away and I must tell you its been the best experience for me since the UO/EQ/DAOC days.
This is NOT a hand holding game like WOW... Open ended and tough. Players can plot lands, own houses anywhere on the landscape (just like UO) and they are taking about sieging.
I know what most of you will ask first so here we go. YES there is a free for all PVP server. YES you can loot corpses of there coins. YES you can grief the newbs or team against the pking high levels.
THe expereience is well UOish for me with a spell line a bit like EQ, racial fighting much like DAOC, and a GUI much like WOW.. its been a fantastic RUN so expect myself and Jackie Chan-HK to be active. We'd love to see a LOD force up and running again, since there is not only FFA but racial waring. The developers have stated that PVP will mean something and will serve a greater purpose.
Here our the PVP server rulesets for release.
Hi everyone-
Here it is, the much awaited announcement of the specific rulesets. We apologize for not getting this to you sooner, but there were some things we needed to nail down that took some time.
Free for all server:
Minimum level 7
20% soft level difference (explained below)
15% coin loot
PvE item durability is disabled on ability activation and PvP death causes a chance for each equipped item to take a large hit
Releasing your spirit after a PvP death takes you to your bind point. You will not drop a corpse.
Team server:
Minimum level 7
20% soft level difference
15% coin loot
Durability is no different than a PvE server
Releasing your spirit drops a corpse (with no experience loss) and transports you to the nearest altar
Defensive targeting and grouping is restricted

Dark Elf
Kurashasa
Varanthari
Orc
Goblin
Vulmane
Varanjar
Lesser Giant
Order of Alurad
Wood Elf
Raki
Dwarf
Halfling
High Elf

We have support for additional teams, but we feel this is the best initial setup that supports the content and has people able to find opponents from a fairly low level.
The soft level difference means, while your ability to attack someone above the minimum level is unrestricted, if you are more than 20% of their level higher than them, they suffer no penalty and you gain no reward.
The percentages are easily adjustable and we will be enabling coin banking for PvP servers.

The FFA part is thumbs up but have you looked into the coin loot thing in more detail? 15% per death sounds good... if it comes out of everything you own... but if it just what you have on you then its lame. Really, how easy would it be to just make a Bank character that you dont pvp with <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
Sounds kinda like the faction system in UO which was heavily abused with point holder characters. I honor thee!
I know they also mentioned having pvp stat web pages and rewards for the leaders in diff categories... its getting closer to something i wanna play. FFA and 15% money per death might be enough now.

It feels more like WoW and EQ.
I won't play anther game that doesn't focus first and foremost on PVP.
If they add full item loot along with a death penality I would play so when and if they ever put up server with that rule set I am down.........

Wow was a awful pvp experience. I couldn't stand that game and its linear design. I prefer a open world like the per nerf UO days.

With no item loot this game does not deliver.
We dont want a D2 drop gold reward for pvp... we want their items.

WoW PVP and VG PVP are almost the same except:
1) In WoW you don't have to travel for 20 mins to find somone to kill, you can goto a BG.
2) In WoW you are not able to kill somone then hide in a tree or loose LOS by going into a tree, because in wow they are solid.(Tree's that is)
Neither WoW or VG have a death penality or item loot.
The only thing VG has over WoW is a FFA server, not a big death when you cannot loot and death means nothing(I guess you could greif there leveling like the carebears that play wow always claim to do).
So after you and Jackie grind up 70 level's you all can build a house and enjoy the nice crafting system along with gay reputation system that VG spent so much time developing.
Dez your a cool guy but this game is nothing like UO.
Before OSI wrecked UO by adding Trammel and felpuka the great joy's of UO was finding some punk ass mining for ore, jacking him and then taking all his ore. Watching some guy running around the trinsic forest all day skinning bears to buy a sword then jacking him and taking his new sword cutting up his body and then telling him to f-himself........
The only game comming out soon that is worth a shit is Darkfall

Same argument could be made about UO. Its a open world, they'll be players all over the place. Right now you can fight anywhere, anytime, and not have to travel to BG just to make PVP worth something.

Trees are solid my friend. Beta code is over you log into the latest build? Allots changed in the last week (about 1 gigs worth of code alone) my ranger is 100% better since 2 weeks ago. Most of the beta they were testing experimental code with allot of options (video and otherwise) turned off).

VG has coin loots and are considering some sort of item drops. Sieging and a plan to make PVP vital to racial dominance expected. Brad of VG has stated many times he wants pvp deaths to mean something (Right now you do get item duration loss no exp yet) WOW has been out for 2 years now and still haven't allowed any loot system While VG is just getting out of beta.. give it a chance <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The level cap is 50, not 70. Housing is a place to store your personal goods and plant anywhere in the world. Faction is much like UOs cons from dreads and so on. Crafting is awesome but I dont care much for it Id rather pvp and level <img src="/~stretch/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Thanks you too simon, much love of course. Just hope you give it a chance when its released.
