In between right now. Wife requires a $2,000,000.00 policy on me before I buy my next bike. Last bike was a Harley softail. Bike before that was a Sportster. Before that Kawasaki Vulcan. Before that an Interceptor 1000. I've been on just about everything - a conservative guesstimate would be I've put 250,000 miles on my ass. (you fags will no doubt misquote that last)
My next bike will probably be a Fatboy.

That's a great article and, if you choose to wear a helmet, there's some great information in that article about the different helmet standards and the raging controversy in the industry regarding which is actually best.
Please see my response to Murd about the guy with the helmet that ended up paralyzed. For every story regarding how a helmet hurt, there are others with the opposite result. My underlying point, which I don't believe you have yet countered, is that statistically there are very little differences in likely outcomes in the case of a crash. I do not believe that government should legislate when there is not significant reason to believe that the legislation is in the public good.
I wear a helmet when the state I am in requires me to. Once I cross state lines, the lid comes off. If a friend said "wear this or I'm out" my response would be "cya around".
BTW - Ortega canyon's a good run.

anecdotal evidence doesn't do it for me. i guess you do believe in wearing helmets (since you do) -- just not in fan of gov't controlled helmet wearing. i guess that voids the next question i was gonna ask ya -- "what would you suggest your kid do?"
as far as the founding fathers/gov't micromanagement sentiment, i can't believe anyone (especially those who wear helmets) would waste a second fighting this type of battle. there are so many other instances of gov't overstepping the intentions of our forefathers...but people are battling for the right not to protect their heads while riding on a 2-wheeled vehicle.
if you weren't a marine, id tell ya that hippies would protest anything....apparently =D
btw, would our forefathers believe in seatbelts? i think so...mainly 'cause they probably understood the masses weren't smart enough to buckle up when its not mandatory.

I'll only wear a lid when forced to by the law man. =) I cross a state line into AZ or TX or wherevery that doesn't require it, the lid comes off. And not so the wind can blow through my Fabio-like hair - I'm bald. :P
You are right - there are way to many examples of government over-stepping bounds with presumably good intentions. What's funny is that everytime somebody famous is in a motorcycle accident and was not wearing the lid, every fucker in the peanut gallery that has not bothered to research the issue has an opinion. And, as usual with the peanut gallery, few of those opinions are informed.
Seatbelts - demonstrably proven to save lifes. Helmets - not the case.

so its ok to step in when its to save a life, just not help people live healthy? i take it you are pro-life? if so, to me, thats the biggest example of the gov't over-stepping their boundaries.

Wow... talk about going sideways with a conversation. rofl.
I don't think guys wearing helmets vs non-helmet wearing guys promotes healthy living either way. As you stated previously, riding a bike is inherently risky. I view it this way - buy a 3 pack of twinkies. Now, take a tin box, put one unwrapped twinky in it and shake it around - that's a human in a car accident with no seatbelt. Take a second twinky and unwrap it then wrap the top 15% of it in alumanim foil. Now position yourself about 20 feet from a wall and throw said twinky against wall. That's a motorcyclist with a lid on. With the third twinky, do the same thing without the foil. Either way, it's not good for the twinky.
At the end of the day, nothing fucking matters. We all were born, we are damned sure all going to die. How we spend the time between is on us. In the end, it's ashes-to-ashes brother.
About the pro-life vs. pro-choice issue - I am pro-life in the sense that I believe abortion is ethically wrong. My views on this are largely (though not entirely) religiously based. Yet I do not feel that it should be legislated as to me it does not make sense to legislate my views upon other people especially as most of those other people don't share the same religious views.
Best case scenario, to me, would be that the number of unwanted pregnancies were to decrease due to individuals choosing to act with a level of responsiblity for their own actions. Want to have sex? Great - there's this think called birth control - check it out. Want to abstain? Great - best way known to man not only to avoid pregnancy but also STDs. Want to fuck like rabbits and expect nothing to ever happen - you're an idiot.

didn't mean to go sideways on ya, just trying to make the point that:
Want to fuck like rabbits and expect nothing to ever happen - you're an idiot.
equals
Want to ride a motorcycle w/no helment and expect to be safe as possible - you're an idiot.
i guess maybe yer right...its a lifestyle choice, and it really has nothing to do w/gov't boundaries.

Hah, funny you say that. I've been wanting a fat boy for years and years. I finally got all my ducks in a row and can afford one. Will probably be getting one in about 6 weeks or so. Still debating between the fat boy and the softail deluxe. Esentially the same guts, but the deluxe has a couple things I like about it.
