I may regret making another comment on GW. I'll just tell you what the game is. Its all instances. You do missions in instances and pvp in instances. So there is no PKing, but there is arena pvp which gets olds fast.

Isnt this what it has always been? What miraculous changes have you as an Alpha tester suggested to change this?

I've put a lot of input into the PvP system and balance changes. My request for a PK system has gone no where. The responses I get are basically that the engine that GW is made on doesn't support many users like that. That's why the towns are even instances. If they can't support everyone into 1 town there is no way there will ever have a good PK system. There is a lot more info about it on the alpha boards, but I can't post on here. Anyways, let me know what everyone else thinks of GW in 2 weeks. If LoD is still playing, I'd be surprised and proven wrong in a few ways. I need to contact Gaile and see if I am now allowed to talk about what's on the alpha boards, since the game is now live. I would think I'm allowed to talk about everything prior to release.

"If they can't support everyone into 1 town there is no way there will ever have a good PK system." Dude that doesn't even make sense. What does that have to do with a good PK system. Each instance can hold about 100 people, if not more. That's plenty for implimentation of a PK system. You want 10000v10000? Either way, guild wars goal wasn't for a PK system. It was for balanced PvP. Right now it is very close.

.... you consider the fact that there are no MMORPG's out right now which appeal to a casual player (player with less than 10-15 hours a week or less than 3 hours to sit at a time). GW allows for you to have some amount of fun, as a casual player, as opposed to WoW.

I still can't decide whether or not GW is the future of online games, and whether or not that's a good or bad thing. On the one hand, GW manages to cut all the boring bullshit out (GW has instant teleportation, no downtime, easy quests, etc). But on the other, you lose the feel of a real world that you can just wander around in looking for people to fuck with. I guess I hope GW is not the wave of the future for MMOs, because 3-6 months from now I don't know if I'll be bored with it or not. And I still like the more traditional MMOs like UO/AC/SB/WOW (even though each of them had their share of bullshit that made me quit). I'm still hoping somebody just makes one of those types of game the way we want it some day (waiting for Darkfall... SB 2?... UO 2?... some day!). But for right now, GW is a really nice break from the standard MMO. I've played the hell out of it the last week and I'm not even close to bored with it yet. Plus there's no monthly fee that makes you feel obligated to log in 3 months from now or whatever.

This is huge. Even if I quit the game now, I've already gotten more out of it then I have with some other games I've gotten in the past. I don't think there will be any quality PK type games in the future (like old UO I mean). The market doesn't support it. I'm actually amazed that UO was able to keep an open PK system for 8 months. As long as the PvP has depth, I'll be happy. Seems that way so far, though it's still early.
