What I mean is what is a recommended distance to be from the DSL provider? Verizon will only give service to people within 3 miles, but I know DSL speed is dependant on how far you are from the provider. Three miles doesn't seem very large to me, so I would assume anything under that would be quite fast, but I don't know DSL. So would DSL in a 3 mile radius be fast if I was exactly 3 miles away? Or would it only work good if I were closer?

I cant answer your question exactly, but from my experience it makes a big difference how close you are. The DSL I used to use had about a 2 mile range. My house was about 500 feet outside of the range and the speed was about 1/3 of the normal speed. I would guess that if you are just barely in range your speed will not be as good as somebody who was within a mile of the provider.

I am 1800 feet from the central hub and I get the max speed possible for ADSL, 150k/s

The farther away you are, the worse the speed. My friend, who was paying the same as I was, would only get 40k/s and sometimes, he might hit 55k/s

if you are not right next to the hub, go with cable.

My friend in rl is at about 14,000 ft and he gets exactly what they offer, 384/128, on the other hand I am about 1,000 ft from the switch and I get 1200/140, so the closer the better, but at the end of it, you get about 384 max...
Edited by [LoD]Torak on 01/11/03 02:23 AM.

Becuase there is no local station for the phone CO. Would Verizon tech support be able to find this out? Guess I'll call them and see.
